  11. <p>   Customs: No visa is needed by American citizens traveling to
  12. Switzerland.
  13. </p>
  14. <p>   Health: Immunization against disease is required only if the
  15. traveler has passed through an infected area. Health
  16. requirements change; therefore, check latest information.
  17. Special health measures are unnecessary in Switzerland. Swiss
  18. medical facilities are good.
  19. </p>
  20. <p>   Transportation: Railroads connect the main cities and towns.
  21. The Swiss Federal Railway system is entirely electric. Trains
  22. are clean and run on schedule; fares are reasonable, with
  23. special roundtrip and holiday rates.
  24. </p>
  25. <p>   Geneva and Zurich are international flight centers, and both
  26. airports schedule daily flights to the US. Railroad stations
  27. are located in the terminals at both airports.
  28. </p>
  29. <p>   Local transportation systems--trams, buses, taxis, and
  30. commuter lake steamers--are efficient. Swiss roads are good,
  31. though often narrow and winding. Traffic moves on the right. A
  32. good system of limited-access highways joins the major cities.
  33. </p>
  34. <p>   Telecommunications: Direct dialing is in use throughout the
  35. country and includes international telephone calls. Telegraph
  36. service also is excellent. Bern is 6 hours ahead of eastern
  37. standard time.

  39. <p>   National holidays: Jan. 1, Jan. 2, Good Friday, Easter
  40. Monday, Ascension Day, Whitmonday, Aug. 1 (National Day),
  41. Christmas Day, December 26.
